Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) is a semi-professional soccer team based in Detroit, Michigan. The club was founded in 2012 by five Detroit residents with the aim of bringing affordable and entertaining soccer to the city. In just a few years, the club has grown into a beloved institution in the Detroit sports scene.

From the outset, DCFC sought to create a unique identity and culture for the team. They adopted the motto "Passion for Our City, Passion for the Game" and drew inspiration from the passionate supporters of European soccer clubs. This led to the creation of the Northern Guard Supporters, a rowdy and dedicated group of fans who cheer on the team with chants, smoke bombs, and banners.

DCFC's first season was in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a semi-pro league based in the United States. In their debut season, the team finished in second place in their conference and qualified for the playoffs. They reached the regional finals but ultimately fell short of the national championship.

The team's success on the field and passionate fan base quickly caught the attention of the city. In 2014, DCFC moved to Keyworth Stadium, a historic venue in the city's Hamtramck neighborhood. The move allowed the team to increase its capacity and enhance the game-day experience for fans.

Over the years, DCFC has continued to grow and evolve. In 2019, they announced that they would be joining the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), a new professional league in the United States. The move represented a major step forward for the club and its ambitions of becoming a top-tier professional soccer team.

Detroit City FC departed from NISA in 2021 to play in the USL Championship
