The Fenway Bowl
The Fenway Bowl is a college football bowl game that is held annually at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The bowl game was first played in 2020 and is part of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.
The Fenway Bowl is organized by Fenway Sports Management, a sister company of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The game is usually played in December and features teams from the American Athletic Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference. The teams are selected based on their performance during the regular season.
The first Fenway Bowl game was canceled three days prior to kickoff due to COVID issues within the Virginia Cavaliers team; they had been set to face the SMU Mustangs. On December 17, 2022 the Cincinnati Bearcats faced the Louisville Cardinals in the very first Fenway Bowl played with Louisville winning 24–7.
The idea for the Fenway Bowl dates back to 2015, when Fenway Park hosted a college football game between Boston College and Notre Dame. The success of that game inspired FSM to pursue the creation of a bowl game at the historic ballpark. The bowl game is a way to bring additional revenue and exposure to Fenway Park and the city of Boston.
