Los Tigres Del Norte is a group that was started by lead vocalist Jorge Hernandez in Mexico, along with his brothers Hernán and Eduardo Hernández, and his cousins, Luis Hernández and Óscar Lara. They began recording after moving to San Jose, California in the late 1960s, when all the members were still in their teens. The Tigres were at first only locally popular until their big break came in 1974 with the release of "Contrabando y traición,” based on the cross-border drug trade smuggling that had been going on. Los Tigres are known for having encores at their concerts that can last more than an hour after the scheduled ending of the concert. The band has sold 32 million records, have earned seven Grammy Awards, six Latin Grammy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They were also ranked at number 15 on the list for "The 30 Most Influential Latin Artists of All Time" by Billboard magazine.
