Matisyahu is a reggae/hip hop/pop artist from White Plains, New York. Before pursuing a career in music, Matisyahu was a devout Orthodox Jew, which is where he got his stage name meaning 'Gift of God' in Hebrew. His music draws from religious and spiritual influences, and combines that with a unique reggae/hip hop style which is catchy and completely original. Matisyahu maintains his spirituality and religious faith, but is no longer as extreme as he once was. He continues to tour the United States with an impressive backup group, and is known for producing an energetic and compelling live performance.
