Meet Mogwai
Scottish post-rock group Mogwai formed in Glasgow in 1995 by longtime friends who made it a goal to create “serious guitar music.” The band would go on to do much more than that over the course of their career, composing lengthy guitar-driven instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, melodic bass lines, and heavy use of distortion and effects. Mogwai has released a total of nine albums since making their debut, drawing on influences from the likes of Fugazi, MC5, My Bloody Valention, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Slint, and The Cure. Their style has been categorized under a number of genres including math rock, art rock, and shoegaze.
