Norah Jones, born Geetali Shankar to the Indian sitarist and Hindustani classical composer Ravi Shankar and her American mother, Sue Jones, was born in 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. She is a critically acclaimed, multiple Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist, with a soulful and sultry voice which has earned her well over fifty million album sales.
With an early background in jazz and blues, Jones was raised by her mother in Grapevine, Texas, and attended the University of North Texas, majoring in jazz piano. Within a short period of time she met and began collaborating with musical partner Jesse Harris after moving to New York City. She soon signed with Blue Note Records and teamed with seasoned producer Jay Newland. Jones quickly achieved recognition and success with her debut album, “Come Away With Me”, leaving the lounge singer image behind and blossoming as a recording artist. Jones went on to collaborate with Ray Charles among many other successful artists, and has had numerous television and film appearances including Sesame Street and Saturday Night Live.
