REO Speedwagon is a classic rock band, formed in Champaign, Illinois in 1967. Founding member Neal Doughty started the band while attending school at the University of Illinois, and the group emerged in the 1970’s as they consistently toured and recorded. During that time, they signed to Epic Records, and not only developed a strong fan base, but also went through a remarkable list of different band members. Despite the consistently changing line up, REO Speedwagon continued on with Doughty at the forefront through the whole decade, and by 1980, released the album that would shoot them into mainstream success.
The rotating band line up may have been a blessing in disguise, as they underwent several musical transformations over the years. With the release of ‘Hi Infidelity’, the groups break out album, they took more of a power pop approach toward the music, and the record was met with high esteem and critical acclaim. It sold over 10 million copies, and stood out as a major influence for pop music in the 80s to come. After all of these years, REO Speedwagon continues to tour and play their major hits.
