Russell Peters is a Canadian stand-up comedian and actor. Peters began his performing career in Toronto in 1989. On the advice of one of his biggest influencers, American comedian George Carlin, Peters got on stage whenever and wherever possible, allowing him to grow more comfortable with being on stage and expanding his fanbase. Peters credits his 2004 performance on the Canadian TV show Comedy Now! as the turning point in his career, when his performance on the show was uploaded to YouTube and became a viral hit. Peters has come to be known as one of the most prominent names in stand-up comedy in Canada and around the globe. In 2013, he became the first comedian to get a Netflix stand-up special and was named one of Forbes’ highest-paid comedians in the world.
