Folk singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten began writing songs while still attending high school, joining her school’s choir. It was due to her time spent singing with the group that she credits her ability to musically notate and sing harmonies. Even though Van Etten was born and raised in the suburbs of New Jersey, her free-spirited folk/indie sound paint a much broader picture of open landscapes and heartland America. Before signing to a label, Van Etten self-recorded and released seven full-length albums. Her first studio recording, 2009’s Because I Was In Love, put her on the map as an established and skilled songwriter, earning praise from music critics. She has since released an additional six albums, including a remastered version of her 2009 studio debut.
