Stephen Marley is an eight-time Grammy Award winning musician, and the son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Stephen began performing at just seven years old alongside his older siblings, fellow musician Ziggy, Sharon and Cedella in a band called the Melody Makers. Following the death of their father, Ziggy took direction of the band and they were renamed Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, reaching international fame with the release of their third album Conscious Party. The album went platinum and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, making them the youngest recipients of the award at that time. In the late 1990s Stephen began producing music, working with his younger brothers Julian and Damian (which earned him another two Grammys) releasing a remix album of his father's music and producing for artists including the Fugees, Krayzie Bone, Capleton and Inner Circle. He finally emerged as a solo artist in 2007 and went on to release four self-produced studio albums. His first three albums, Mind Control (2007), Mind Control Acoustic (2008) and Revelation Part I: The Root of Life (2011) each won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. Stephen composed and produced every song on each of his solo albums and played a variety of the instruments featured on them himself.
