Wolf Trap National Park Accepted Payment Methods
Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts primarily operates on a cashless basis. This implies that while some vendors may still accept cash, most onsite purchases are done with digital wallets or debit and credit cards. Although Wolf Trap National Park accepts most credit cards (such as Visa and Mastercard), it is prudent to carry a small amount of cash for tipping and for the few vendors that might accept it inside and outside the venue.
The Barns at Wolf Trap are nestled within a 117-acre park, once a working farm owned by Catherine Filene Shouse. A highly decorated public servant, Shouse founded Wolf Trap in 1966 when she was 71 years old. Wolf Trap’s first venue was Filene Center, and in 1981, she had two 18th century barns from Maine brought to Virginia, rebuilt them, keeping their rustic charm, and added first-rate acoustics and amenities to create The Barns at Wolf Trap. Wolf Trap is the only national park dedicated to presenting the performing arts.
The venue is the summer home of the Wolf Trap Orchestra, and from fall through spring, it presents more than 80 performances. The building is known for its stunning architecture, which is made of Douglas fir and yellow pine, and is specially designed for major outdoor music events. It features both lower and upper indoor seats with two opposite external bridges to the upper level, while its sloping grassy lawn gives patrons a great view of the performances.
Wolf Trap is accessible by cab, Uber, or guests may drive to the venue, which offers free parking. Patrons can also take the free Wolf Trap Express Shuttle service to the venue from the West Falls Church Metro Station. Bus service begins running two hours before show time and every 20 minutes until the start of the performance. Buses leave the venue 20 minutes after the show or by 11 p.m. In most cases, Wolf Trap does not cancel concerts due to inclement weather. Umbrellas are permitted.
Patrons may bring a personal camera to take pre-performance pictures, but taking pictures during the performance might not be permitted, unless allowed by the artist.
Although the amphitheater opens only from May through September, the rest of the park is open all year round. The park itself offers a host of attractions, which include beautiful picnic areas, fantastic restaurants, and more.
