Alamodome Information:
The Alamodome is located in San Antonio, TX, and is used mainly for special events, and basketball and football games. Although this facility is no longer the most modern in the area, it still has a lot to offer. Each year hundreds of events use the Alamodome, and the venue happily greets thousands of people along the way.
While there are no primary tenants that use the Alamodome for sporting events, the NCAA Division I Football Alamo Bowl is played at this venue year in and year out. This game has been played at the Alamodome since it opened in 1993.
Hands down, the biggest benefit of the Alamodome is its seating capacity. When this arena was built it was done so with the idea of attracting an NFL team to the city. While this has not yet happened, it is not yet out of the question. For American football games the Alamodome can accommodate 65,000 fans, and can be expanded to 72,000 if need be. For basketball games the capacity is 36,500, and for special events such as the NCAA Final Four this number can be expanded quite a bit. Seating capacity for concerts is also huge at 77,000 for stadium center stage concerts, and 50,000 for end stage set ups.
Throughout the years the Alamodome has seen many great moments. Just a few of the more popular ones include the 2006 Alamo Bowl, 1997 WWF Royal Rumble, 1993 Paul McCartney Concert, 1999 NBA Finals, and the 1996 NBA All Star Game. Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Each and every year the Alamodome hosts many of the top events in the area. With an enormous seating capacity and modern features it is easy to see why the Alamodome attracts so many events and spectators.
