He started out as the frontman of country group the Chris Lane Band, releasing their debut album Let's Ride (2012) before parting ways in pursuit of a solo career. Following the split, Lane headed for Nashville, going on to establish himself as a successful solo artist and opening for acts including The Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Brad Paisley, and the Eli Young Band. His debut single, "Broken Windshield View" arrived in 2014, breaking through and landing at the number 45 spot in the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. His debut solo album Girl Problems followed two years later in 2016, with his sophomore effort Laps Around the Sun, arriving in 2018.
