Cody Johnson is a self-made, American Texas Country singer and songwriter. Johnson began to sing and play guitar at the young age of 12 years old. He formed his first band in 2006, going on to self-release his own albums and garnering major success. His second professionally produced album, A Different Day, was released in 2011 and won Johnson the Texas Regional Music Award for New Male Vocalist of the Year. Following the win, Johnson quit his day job to pursue a full-time career in music. To date he has self-released six albums, with the latest album, Gotta Be Me, debuting at number two on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The album was Johnson's most successful release yet, achieved without any support from major labels or widespread radio play.
