Metalcore band Hatebreed formed in 1994 with a goal of creating a “back to basics” hardcore band featuring heavy guitars, screaming vocals, and 30-second songs. The group got their start touring up and down the East Coast alongside acts like Slayer, Entombed, the Deftones, and Napalm Death before releasing their debut full-length album Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire in 1997. They have since released six additional albums, including one cover album in 2009 entitled For the Lions. Hatebreed’s musical style blends elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal, and though they are considered a prominent act in the hardcore scene, they have been considered part of the metal scene as well.
