Kendrick Lamar is an award-winning American rapper from Compton, California. At the ripe age of 16, Lamar released his first mixtape under the pseudonym K-Dot, which led to a recording contract with Top Dawg Entertainment. Since embarking on his musical career in 2003, Lamar has risen to global prominence, winning multiple hip hop artist awards.
In 2011, he was dubbed the “New King of the West Coast” by Snoop Dogg, Game and Dr. Dre, who Lamar has cited as one of his major influences. His first major-label album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, debuted at number two in the U.S. in 2012, featuring hits such as “Backstreet Freestyle” and “Swimming Pools.” The album would go on to become certified gold.
In 2015, Lamar won two Grammy awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his song “i” featured on the critically-acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly. Featuring a unique style that incorporates jazz and funk elements into catchy hip hop beats, Lamar has commonly been dubbed one of the greatest rappers of all time. His most recent album, DAMN., was released in 2017 to rave reviews, with the lead single “Humble” reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Recently, Lamar announced a Top Dawg Entertainment Tour set to take place in summer 2018 alongside the likes of SZA, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, to name a few.
