Meet Peter Yarrow
Best known as the Peter of folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, Peter Yarrow rose to fame throughout the 1960s on the strength of his skilled songwriting, sound quality, and commitment to excellence. Peter, Paul & Mary were behind some of the most popular songs to hit the airwaves in the 1960s, including hits like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “If I Had a Hammer,” and “Puff the Magic Dragon,” promoting messages centered around social issues and concerns of the times. Aside from a successful career in the music industry, Yarrow is also a dedicated political activist, and has supported causes that range from opposition to the Vietnam War to the creation of Operation Respect, an organization that works to promote tolerance and civility in schools. Yarrow was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 as a member of Peter, Paul & Mary. The group were also recipients of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.
