Indie rock and folk duo Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan merged in 2011 and formed the group Milk Carton Kids. Their style is mired heavily in folk and classic Americana, with a subtle indie twist. The Grammy-nominated band was formed shortly after Ryan attended one of Pattengale’s solo performances in Eagle Rock, California and the duo decided to work together.
The Milk Carton Kids enjoy widespread critical acclaim, and are considered masters in their genre. Their style, a mix of old-school flat-picking and inimitable vocal harmony, remains fresh and unique among other modern folk groups. They released five albums within their first five years, beginning with “Retrospect” in 2011 and including the oft-described “perfect” album “The Ash & Clay”.
