Indie rock-folk outfit The Paper Kites formed initially as a duo consisting of Sam Bentley and Christina Lacy, who had been performing and writing together since high school. The two later recruited the rest of the group from other Melbourne, Australia-based bands to complete the lineup before releasing their debut single "Bloom" in 2010. The Paper Kites issued their first EP Woodland in 2011, quickly capturing audiences' attention thanks to their harmonic blends and acoustic-oriented indie-pop sound. By the following year they were headlining across Australia, continuing to develop their sound before their full length debut, States, in late 2013. The Paper Kites made their first trip to North America that same year supporting City & Colour on tour before embarking on their own headlining tour. They have since released three additional studio albums, the concept/experimental Twelvefour in 2015, with the hushed-acoustic two-part follow up On the Train Ride Home and On the Corner Where You Live, both of which arrived in 2018.
