Today’s total solar eclipse is the talk of towns across the nation, particularly those in the path of totality. How will you celebrate? For many music fans across the country, eclipse day will be complemented by a concert from one of the country’s best bands. From Saratoga, Cal. (which will experience a partial eclipse) to Kansas City (a lucky totality spot), here are seven of the most exciting concerts happening this today, August 21.
Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA
The people of Saratoga will experience 73.62 percent totality beginning at 9 am., with their peak hitting around 10:15 am. After that, things should get back to normal—good thing Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music is rolling into town that night to make it an extra special.
Chastain Park Amphitheater, Atlanta, GA
Atlanta is very close to the path of totality. The city will experience over 97 percent totality on today at around 2:35 pm., and a few hours later, none other than Deep Purple and Alice Cooper—what better way to celebrate a little bit of darkness?
Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul, MN
Saint Paul will see the sun eclipse by 83.09 percent between 11:45 am. and 2:30 pm., with the peak occuring at 1:05 pm. That night, Lady Gaga takes over the Xcel Energy Center with her Joanne World tour in support of her fifth studio album, Joanne.
Arvest Bank Theatre, Kansas City, MO
Lucky for Kansas City, it’s in the absolute path of totality, with a total eclipse settling over the city at 1:08 pm. Suffice to say, the city will be buzzing and ready for the energy that eve of Canadian singer-songwriter, City and Colour, who takes the stage at Arvest Bank Theatre at Midland at 7 pm.
Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY
The legendary Billy Joel will hit the stage at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden following the city’s 71 percent eclipse earlier that day. The Big Apple will experience the solar eclipse beginning at 1:23 pm., with the best chance of seeing the effects of the obscured sun at 2:45 pm.
Old Concrete Street Amphitheatre, Corpus Christi, TX
While Corpus Christi won’t get a lot of eclipse action—it’s set to get 56.60 percent eclipsed, peaking at 1:15 pm.—it will get rocked that night by Seether, so it’s basically an even trade. The South African rockers take the stage at 8 pm., with doors opening at 7 pm.
Cheyenne Civic Center, Cheyenne, WY
Cheyenne will experience near-totality with a 97.57 eclipse happening, at its peak, at 11:47 am. Feeling like some blues later on? Joe Bonamassa, who released Live at the Carnegie Hall—An Acoustic Evening earlier this summer, will take over the Cheyenne Civic Center that night with his brand of blues-rock. Considering he opened for BB King when he was 12, this show, much like the eclipse, is not to be missed.
