Christina Aguilera Embarks on First North American Tour in Over 10 Years
Pop Princess Christina Aguilera is making a comeback with the announcement of her “The Liberation Tour”! The 22-city trek will take place fall 2018 and marks her first tour in over a decade, since her 2008 “Back to Basics Tour.”
The tour will feature 24 shows across 22 theaters in North America, kicking off in Hollywood, Florida on September 25. From there, Aguilera will hit numerous stops including Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. It will wrap where it started in Florida with a show in St. Petersburg on November 13.
Aguilera will be touring in support of her upcoming eighth studio album, Liberation, which is set for release on June 15. Fans of the award-winning pop star will finally be treated to new music after a six-year hiatus (her last album, Lotus, came out in 2012. Feel old yet?).
The singer recently unveiled the single “Accelerate,” featuring rapper 2 Chainz and produced by Kanye West. The LP’s second single "Fall in Line" featuring Demi Lovato will premiere May 20 during the Billboard Music Awards.
Although she has taken a break from producing new music to focus on motherhood, Aguilera has remained in the spotlight as a recurring judge on the hit television singing competition, The Voice.
"Touring is so frightening to me, because I am a mom first. It's part of why I stayed in the position I was [at The Voice]," Aguilera said in a recent interview. "It's easy to get comfortable and cushy in the same place and not have to worry about uprooting your kids. I've been putting myself on the back burner. It needs to happen. I'm looking forward to getting back out and actually showing my kids what Mommy really does!"
About Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera was born in Staten Island, New York in 1980 to an Ecuadorian father and Spanish teacher mother. After her parents divorced, her mother moved her to Philadelphia, where she became known locally as “the little girl with the big voice.” At the ripe age of 8, she won her first talent show, and continued to compete in other talent competitions with the aspiration of becoming a singer.
In 1991, Aguilera joined The Mickey Mouse Club alongside future stars Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake. When she was 17, she sang on the soundtrack of the Disney movie Mulan with the song “Reflection” which peaked at number 19 on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart.
Following the success of the Disney single, Aguilera was signed to RCA Records and she released her debut single “Genie in a Bottle” in 1999. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and charted across the globe, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The album itself, eponymously named, peaked at number one and was certified eight times platinum, producing three singles. Aguilera earned a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2000. She recorded an entirely Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo, which won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album in 2001.
She earned the title “Pop Princess” with her continued musical success, releasing Stripped in 2002 which produced several hit singles including “Dirty,” “Beautiful,” and “Fighter.” Aguilera's fifth studio album, Back to Basics (2006), debuted at number one in several countries and spawned the hits "Ain't No Other Man" and "Hurt.”
In 2010, Aguilera released her sixth studio album Bionic and starred in the movie-musical Burlesque. The following year, she debuted as a coach on the reality competition television series The Voice, where she remained for six seasons. Her seventh studio album, Lotus, was released in 2012. Aguilera has also been featured on several successful collaborations during her career, including "Lady Marmalade", "Moves like Jagger", "Feel This Moment", and "Say Something.”
On January 12, 2008, Aguilera gave birth to Max Bratman, her son with Jordan Bratman who she later divorced. Aguilera became engaged to Matthew Rutler in 2014 after meeting on the set of Burlesque. She gave birth to their daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, that same year.
