Ranking The 10 NFL Stadiums Most Popular With Music Fans

Adam M. Young | May 17, 2017
Best NFL stadiums according to music fans.
This is part two of our NFL stadium rankings looking at concerts held outside the football season. To see the list of most popular concerts from 2017 and 2016, visit part one. When football stadiums aren’t playing host to upwards of 75,000 screaming fans, they’re hosting other events. Many will convert to soccer fields or hold monster truck rallies, and in Minnesota they even convert brand new U.S. Bank Stadium into a baseball field for college teams to escape the winter.

In the summer they turn into the nation’s largest concert venues, giving the most popular musicians a chance to perform on an unmatched scale. As you might imagine, not just anyone can fill an NFL stadium. It takes international superstardom to do the stadium circuit. Throughout this ranking you’ll see bands like U2, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Beyoncé. That’s the level a band must reach to play the biggest stages in music.

We’re always interested in finding which tours and which venues are most popular, so we dug up the data to find which NFL stadiums are the most popular for concerts. Below you’ll find the top 10 most popular NFL stadiums to attend a concert, ranked by average ticket sales per show.

Philadelphia and Houston battle for the top spot

Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia tops the list thanks to popular 2017 concerts by Metallica, U2 and two shows from Beyoncé in 2016. Guns N’ Roses also helped The Linc top the list when they played a show last July as part of their Not In This Lifetime Tour.

Philly juuuuust edged out NRG Stadium in Houston. Like Lincoln Financial Field, it played host to Beyoncé twice in 2016 to propel it toward the top of the rankings. But the big boost came from Willie Nelson, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, The Chainsmokers and more who played at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Upcoming concerts from U2 and Metallica also boosted NRG Stadium’s ranking.

MetLife Stadium just ranks third. Being in the New York market, it’s seen every major tour, plus multiple shows from Bieber, Springsteen and U2. AT&T Stadium in Dallas comes in at number four. It’s 2017 concerts for Metallica and U2 are already hot, and Justin Bieber’s July 29 show helped propel Jerry World up the rankings. Gillette Stadium in Foxborough completes the top five with the help of back-to-back Kenny Chesney concerts in late August.
