The rock musical Hamilton is a story based on the comprehensive biography by Ron Chernow of Alexander Hamilton. The biography was first a Broadway play in 1917, and was originally written as a musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda almost a century later. The musical made an Off-Broadway, and then Broadway, debut in 2015 and received enthusiastic reviews. In 2016, Hamilton received 16 Tony nominations and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
