Paquita la del Barrio got her start in music in Mexico City in the 1970s, performing at local restaurants in Colonial Guerrero and growing a loyal fanbase. It was there she would earn her stage name (she was born Francisca Viveros Barradas). Paquita’s big break would arrive in 1986, performing in a Televisa show that gained her widespread exposure and landing her a recording contract. She has since released an impressive total of 43 studio albums over the course of her career, many of which focus on taking a stance against sexist male culture in Mexico, making Paquita especially popular with female audiences.
