Steely Dan is a band formed by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen who saw great success and popularity throughout the 1970's. The bands musical style is a sort of combination of jazz rock with pop, funk, and even elements of R&B. The band is known for writing incredibly complicated arrangements, which often require the assistance of collaborating musicians and engineers outside of the group to help fill the songs and format with the band's vision.
The band broke up in 1981, much to the dismay of their dedicated fan base. Still, even though they were not touring or releasing new material, the fans remained faithful. After more than a ten year hiatus, the dynamic song writing duo got back together in 1993, and has released two new albums. Steely Dan has an impressive resume; they have won an 'Album of the Year' Grammy Award (Two Against Nature) and are a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Steely Dan was and continues to be in a class of their own and a powerful influence in the musical world.
