The Utica Unicorns is part of the Jimmy John's Field, an independent Minor League Baseball in Utica, MI, started in May 2016. It is meant to give players recently graduated from college or with limited minor league experience a chance to stay in baseball shape, and give them an opportunity to be signed to contracts with MLB affiliated minor league teams.
Jimmy John's Field is the home stadium for all four teams: Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, Eastside Diamond Hoppers, Utica Unicorns, Westside Woolly Mammoths in the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL).The ballpark is located in downtown Utica. Construction began in June 2015 and the venue opened on May 30, 2016. The stadium has a total capacity of 4,500 fans, with 2,000 box seats between first and third base. It features 7 founder's level suites, 5 dugout suites, 12 patio suites, 4 picnic areas, and a grass berm.
Since 2016, Utica Unicorns and Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers have alternated crowning the champion title. A total of 46 USPBL players signed with MLB organizations and 3 that have been on Major League Rosters including: Jared Koenig, Logan Gillaspie and Randy Dobnak.
