Originating in Helsinki, Finland, Apocalyptica formed in 1993 as a cello metal band featuring cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lotjonen and Perttu Kivilaakso. The band is also made up of drummer Mikko Siren and singer Franky Perez. Apocalyptica started in the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki as a Metallica tribute band before branching off into composing original work with a classic metal style. The unique combination of hard rock and classic composition made the band widely popular in the late 90s, early 2000s and today. The band has released eight studio albums, selling over four million copies worldwide.
