Jimmy Buffett, born James William Buffett in 1946, is a popular American singer, songwriter, actor and author as well as a successful businessman, although he is the most recognized through his musical career.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast native is well known among his fans, known as “Parrotheads”, for his beach-bum persona, often portraying “island escapism” through his music, where he often writes and sings about laid back island dwelling lifestyles and any associated activities and antics, often times in a humorous and practical fashion. He is associated with a mix of original styles and blends of Gulf and Western, country, country pop, folk, rock and surf music. His own personal description of his musical style is “drunken Caribbean rock ‘n roll”.
Buffett has a remarkable recording history consisting of twenty nine studio albums and ten compilations. Additional recordings include a Christmas album, soundtracks to the play “Don’t Stop The Carnival” and the film “Rancho Deluxe”, and twelve live albums as of 2013 since the conception of his career in Nashville, TN in the late 1960’s.
Controversy has marked his career, primarily due to the context of titles and lyrics, and he has made headlines and waves during off stage appearances ending in debate. He has been very active in multiple charities, most of which he founded and surround marine life and conservation.
