Meet Rage Against The Machine

Rap metal rockers Rage Against the Machine (often shortened to RATM, or simply Rage) formed in Los Angeles, California in 1991. The group, made up of musicians Zack de la Rocha, Tim Commerford, Tom Morello, and Brad Wilk, released their self-titled debut album in 1992, instantly achieving commercial and critical success. Their debut album remains one of their most successful to date and was ranked on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

During their initial nine-year run, Rage Against the Machine established themselves as one of the most popular and influential bands in the world, having a massive influence on the nu-metal genre.

The band released four additional albums, including chart-toppers Evil Empire (1996) and The Battle of Los Angeles (1999), before frontman Zack de la Rocha announced his departure due to growing creative differences.

"I feel that it is now necessary to leave Rage because our decision making process has completely failed,” de la Rocha said at the time. “It is no longer meeting the aspirations of all four of us collectively as a band, and from my perspective, has undermined our artistic and political ideal."

De la Rocha’s decision to part ways with the band led to Rage Against the Machine disbanding in 2000. In the years that followed, he pursued a low-key solo career, while the rest of the band formed rock supergroup Audioslave with former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.

Audioslave released three studio albums, including Audioslave, Out of Exile, and Revelations. Critics were tough at first, describing their sound as simply a combination of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine.

By the time Out of Exile was released in 2005, it was clear they had established a sound and identity that was all their own. The supergroup picked up a total of three Grammy Award nominations in their short time together, selling more than eight million records around the world.

In 2007, Cornell announced his decision to leave Audioslave, prompting a Rage Against the Machine reunion. The band performed together for the first time in seven years at the Coachella festival that year. Rage continued to play live shows and festivals over the next few years before parting ways again in 2011.

In 2019, after an eight-year-long hiatus and weeks of speculation, Rage Against the Machine announced they would be reuniting once again.

Despite enduring years of breakups and reunions, Rage Against the Machine have remained one of the most popular and influential rap-rock and nu-metal bands in the world. Don’t miss an opportunity to experience the Rage Against the Machine Tour.
