With over 250 million albums sold worldwide, 37 of which have claimed gold and a remarkable 27 have hit platinum, there is no room for doubt that Sir Elton Hercules John is one of the most successful solo artist in music history, topping the charts next to the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
His piano talents were recognized at the age of three when he stunned his family with “The Skater’s Waltz” which he had learned and recited by ear. He received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where he attended on weekends between the ages of eleven and fifteen. Clearly just the beginning of what would prove to be a remarkable career that would span for more than five decades, the British singer songwriter, pianist and composer has played more than 3500 shows in more than eighty countries. Elton John holds the record for the best-selling single of all time for his tribute to Diana, Princess of Whales (‘Candle In The Wind’), and has won a Tony Award, multiple Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award on top of countless other awards and nominations.
In 1994, his first year of eligibility, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame following his 1992 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Queen Elizabeth II appointed John to Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1995, and he was later awarded Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Sir Elton John is nothing shy of a true, living, rock and roll legend.
In 2018 Elton John announced his retirement from touring and his plan to embark on a final 300-date tour later that year. The lengthy Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour spans a total of three years, giving fans ample opportunity to say goodbye to the rock legend as a performer. John has stated that he will continue to write, record and produce more albums at the conclusion of the tour in 2022.
